Following a promising training camp and preseason, second-year safety Kitan Crawford made notable progress for the Cardinals.
However, his season has been put on hold due to an injury, and it remains to be seen when he will be able to showcase his skills again.
Crawford sustained a right ankle injury during the season opener against the Chargers, which occurred on a blocked punt play, and as a result, the Cardinals have placed him on Injured Reserve as of Wednesday.
Although players on IR are eligible to return later in the season, coach Mike LaFleur indicated that Crawford's status would be reassessed in about a month, suggesting that he is expected to make a comeback at some point.
To fill the vacant roster spot left by Crawford, the Cardinals have promoted cornerback Kalen King from the practice squad.
In addition, the team has added two defensive backs to the practice squad, namely cornerback Art Green and safety Jerrick Reed II, after releasing wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette from the practice squad on Tuesday to create an extra spot.
The Cardinals' secondary is currently dealing with several injuries, including Crawford's, as well as a ribs injury that kept safety Rabbit Taylor-Demerson out of the opener, and cornerback Garrett Williams' ongoing recovery from last season's Achilles injury, which made him inactive for the game.
